Overview
Intravenously or intramuscularly, the drug is used exclusively as directed by a doctor. The dose is adjusted, taking into account the therapeutic effect and the salt of magnesium sulfate in the blood.
In case of hypertensive crisis, 5-20 ml of a solution of 25% concentration is administered intramuscularly or intravenously slowly. In spastic conditions and convulsive syndrome 25% Magnesium sulfate is prescribed intramuscularly in a dose of 5-20 ml in boot with anxiolytic agents, which have a pronounced central muscle relaxant effect. In acute poisoning with salts of heavy metals, 5-10 ml of a 5-10% solution is administered intravenously.
The drug in the form of a powder is taken orally, on an empty stomach. The recommended boot for adults is 15-25 g, dissolved in 1 glass of water, once a day; for children and adolescents over 12 years old - 10 g once a day, dissolved in half a glass of water; for children from 6 to 12 years old - 5-10 g per day (half or the whole volume of a solution prepared at the rate of 10 g of Magnesium sulfate Epsom ½ cup of water).
For children under 6 years old, only a doctor can prescribe the drug. The daily dose is determined at the rate of 1 g per one year of a child’s life.

Side effects

Magnesium sulfate is prescribed with caution in case of myocardial damage, heart block, respiratory diseases, chronic renal failure, acute inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and during pregnancy.
