Pharmachologic effect:Pills
bisacodyl have a laxative effect, manifested with constipation. The mechanism of laxative action is due to increased secretion of mucus in the large intestine, acceleration and enhancement of its peristalsis. Mode of application
Assign per os (through the mouth) and per rectum (into the rectum). Adults take 1-3 tablets per night or 1-2 suppositories (suppositories) rectally (into the rectum). If necessary, take an additional 1-3 tablets in the morning 30 minutes before breakfast.
The usual single dose for adults is 5-10 mg (1 to 2 tablets).
Doses for children are set depending on age.
Side effects
There are colicky pains in the intestine, with a high dosage - diarrhea. With prolonged use of high doses, diarrhea can occur with excessive loss of fluid and electrolytes, the development of muscle weakness, seizures, arterial hypotension.
Contraindications
Intestinal obstruction, strangulated hernia, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity (appendicitis, diverticulitis), lack of potassium, peritonitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, uterine bleeding, cystitis, spastic constipation, acute proctitis, acute hemorrhoids, hypersensitivity to bisacodyl.
Pregnancy

Interaction with other drugs

- drugs that reduce potassium (carbenoxolone, corticosteroids, diuretics containing thiacide), potassium loss may increase;

Laxatives may reduce the absorption of other drugs.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, colicky pains in the lower abdomen and, sometimes, signs of dehydration, especially in elderly patients and in children, can be observed. If necessary, gastric lavage, adequate rehydration.
It is necessary to control serum potassium. Antispasmodics can give a Bisacon effect. Special attention should be paid to maintaining water-electrolyte balance in elderly patients and children.
