Possibly staining urine pink.
The results of the determination of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid in urine (when using nitrozonaphthol reagent) can be falsely overestimated due to the influence of guaifenesin metabolites on color (guaifenesin should be discontinued 48 hours before urine collection for this test).
Guaifenesin and its metabolites can cause discoloration in the determination of vanillylmindic acid in urine and falsely overestimate the results of a catechin test with it (guaifenesin should be discontinued 48 hours before urine collection for this test).

Pharmacological properties

Guaifenesin activating the bronchial ciliary apparatus facilitates the elimination of sputum, making a cough productive. With a single dose, the duration of action of guaifenesin Benylin 3.5 to 4 hours. Guaifenesin is rapidly (25 to 30 minutes after ingestion) absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract). The half-life is 1 hour. Guaifenesin enters tissues that contain acid mucopolysaccharides. The drug is metabolized in the liver. It is excreted by the kidneys and lungs (with sputum) in the form of inactive metabolites.

The Childrens of determination of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid in urine (when using nitrozonaphthol reagent) can be falsely enhanced due to the effect of guaifenesin metabolites on color (using the drug must be canceled 2 chesty before collecting urine for this test). Guaifenesin Benylin its metabolites can change color when determining vanillylindic acid in urine and falsely increase the results of a test with it for catechins; use of the drug must be canceled 2 days before collecting urine for this test). If, after 1 cough of using guaifenesin, the cough persists or a skin rash, hyperthermia, sore throat, and a prolonged headache are observed along with the cough, then consult a doctor.
